I can't tell you how many times I've been asked this or given grief because someone thinks it is funny
to pronounce it another way. At times I have to think if I should have chosen another name, but in reality
it is a perfect name. Why? Because when someone doesn't understand it and has to ask a question about it,
they are much more likely to remember it.
So what does it stand for? It is actually rather simple. It stands for Dallas Fischer,
man. I think people who know my full name catch on a little quicker obviously, but there were
still a few I had to explain it a couple of times to. The 'man' part actually came more from just being
at that age when the term was thrown around more as a slang expression rather than being a man by gender.
Probably the funniest misinterpretation I've had to deal with is a result of putting the name on my car's
license plate. I had a guy in a parking lot once that wanted to ask me something and he obviously looked
at my license plate first. He started making all sorts of gestures to try and get his question across while
he spoke out loud. I think he was surprised when I spoke back to him that I wasn't deaf, man.
Awhile after I started using the name for various things, I also made up the following as a summary of
how I want to live my life.
Drive for perfection.
Family and Friends are the most valuable possessions.
Manage your time and your money wisely.
Answer to yourself to determine the truth.
Never give up hope.
